Dyoys

By Jose Maria Paolo Dajay Santos

A lot of questions are asked, a number of theories are presented and assumptions are made, but still no one has ever defined what it is. Who has the authority to define it?

Dyoys Divina Liwayway Foundation Inc. Ltd, a prestigious title given to a special dormer at Balay Lampirong. For 11 years this award has been passed on from one batch to another. Usually given during the acquaintance party, a special chant is presented by the upperclassmen of Balay Lampirong to welcome this award. It has been a mystery to most dormers including the receiver himself of what this award is all about. Most people say, he shall be the one who will “represent” his batch. Upperclassmen of Balay Lampirong always look forward to the awarding, waiting patiently for the special announcement of who will be the next receiver of the award. As Dyoys, he should attend all Balay Lampirong events (well, all dormers are actually required to attend all dormitory events), his presence is a must. His special night is known as the Bachelor’s Night where he heads, plans, and an event where in the Dyoys shines.

It is a challenge not only for the Dyoys but for also his fellow dormers to define what the award is all about.  A Dyoys might be a socialite who attends all events inside or outside UP, he maybe an introvert who enjoys most of his time by himself.  An athlete who can be considered as the dorm’s MVP or a supermodel that stands out from the rest. He might be a leader who everyone looks up too or a simple dormer with a golden heart. You can hear a lot of comments from the upperclassmen about what a Dyoys is, they have their own opinions but let us remember opinions are opinions.

Dyoys can be anyone he wants to because at the end of the day the person who can define what Dyoys Divina Liwayway Foundation Inc. Ltd all about is none other than Dyoys himself. It doesn’t matter what people say or how much they compare one Dyoys from another because each Dyoys is unique, he is special in his own way. He will understand his purpose sooner or later; he shall be the one to define who DYOYS DIVINA LIWAYWAY FOUNDATION INC LTD. So to all my fellow Dyoys and future Dyoys, always remember: People don’t tell us who we are, we tell them.

Balay Lampirong: House Council 2011-2012

               Batch 2011-2012: House Council
Where is our sexy adviser?

Modesty aside, Balay Lampirong has always been known for being the dorm with the most events. True enough, an event wouldn’t be successful without the participation of the dormers, and of course the people behind it. At the start of the semester, the dormers are given the chance to choose the people they think that deserve and are capable to decide whether their first year in the dorm would be memorable or not.The House Council Officers Batch 2011 - 2012 are Jenny Boy Villalva as President, Khristian Mark Donguines as Secretary General, Ana Marie Grace Macahilas as Liaison Officer, Lorie Lacson and Jose Maria Paolo Santos as Finance Officers for Girls and Boys, Dawn Marie Castro (yours truly) as Annex Wing Representative, Christia Ulson as Lower Wing Girls Representative, Mia Juan Loa as Upper Wing Girls Representative, Alvin Maghopoy as Lower Wing Boys Representative, and Ace Marc Tutor as Upper Wing Boys Representative. We also have our Associates, Mark Allan Rezaga for the Lower Wing Boys and Aubrey Julianne Tumala for the Upper Wing Girls. Under the supervision of our dear adviser Dan Aleias Cayabyab.
We are people with creative and crazy minds. Coming from different backgrounds, we unexpectedly jived well as time went by. Whenever meetings are held, the mini-library becomes a kitchen of ideas where we act as cooks that meticulously choose and think of ingredients that would make the events we serve as interesting and enjoyable as possible. Besides the traditional ones, we thought of other activities in which to make the dormers’ stay in the dorm more memorable. We were the first to spearhead the “House Cup” that enflamed the dormers spirit of competition and of course, united the dormers even more.
Originally, meetings should be done formally in order to tackle all the important details, but there are times when we just enjoy ourselves and do music videos and other stuffs. Of course, it is not only happy moments that happen between the council. Misunderstandings are normal, but we do our best to fix things as quickly as possible. At the end of the day, we still come up with great ideas.
The House Council Officers Batch 2011 – 2012 continued the legacy of greatness of the former batches. (Hindi ko lang sinasabi to dahil part ako nang house council pero, I believe, we didn’t let the alumni and the dormers down naman with the way we handled the activities.) Personally, being part of the House Council was a very life-changing experience. I learned how to balance my time and most of all to prioritize. I also learned to put others needs’ before mine.
Cheers to all of us for a successful and unforgettable year! XD

Ow! There's our sexy adviser.

p.s. we could post our Judas Video and MMPs cgro. ;)

Annex Wing 2011-2012

(Inspired by our Final MMP)

ANNEX WING
BY DAWNIIIITA

Masayahin. Makulit. Maiingay. Magulo. Madrama. Kakaiba. These are just some of the words that can be used to describe the Annex Wing Girls. Okay lang naman siguro if magta-taglish ako since this is a blog and dapat expressive. Haha.
The Annex Wing Girls are from Rooms 1 – 5. I became the Annex Wing Rep dahil pinag-usapan na naming ahead of time. Wala na nga akong kalaban eh. At first, I thought na it would be an easy job, but hindi ko pala talaga alam ang pinasukan ko. But with the help of my very supportive girls, we got through it together.
Yung Room 1, Sila Erlie, Sophia, Sela, at Denn na pinalitan ni Chai nung second sem. PolSci at History yung course nila (nung wala pa si Chai) kaya they are considered the RedBolt room. Next is Room 2, Kami yun, Si Ana, Loyd, Bjorn at Ako. Skimmers Room, kasi obviously we’re all Skimmers, and as expected, yung room naming yung sentro nang chikahan, chismisan at kung anu-ano pang gusto mong malaman. Pag nag-uusap kami, abot hanggang boys’ wing kaya nalalaman nila ang aming mga sikreto. Next yung Room 3, Sila Cheska, Meika, Essa, at Gayle, mix na Skimmers tska Redbolts naman sila. Yung room nila yung laging parang walang tao kasi their residents are always in the other rooms. Haha. And of Course, yung Room 5, sila Ate Wina, Ate Kriz, Ate Care, tsaka Ate Ramona.
Because of our performance, we were tagged as “Mga Bugaw”, though we don’t really take it into the literal context noh. From then on kasi halos lahat nang mga performance namin, theme or whatsoever ay sexy at daring, so it just suited us. I don’t really remember how we became close, pero naging super close talaga kami lahat. Para bang, we were really meant to be together. Very supportive talaga ang lahat sa isa’t isa. If mayroong nangangailangan nang damit, or sapatos, notes, laptop, or kung anu-ano pa, ready talagang magpahiram yung iba. If may event or kung ano man na nangangailangan nang presence namin, go ka agad.

We were also the most controversial wing sa buong dorm. We also had our fights. Yes, we had issues, but we resolved them and became better people afterwards. Magaling kasi kaming umarte. Hahaha.
Kahit pasaway kami, the uppclass have always been there for us. They are always ready to listen to our problems, chikka, or kahit magkwentuhan about how are day went lang and for that Thank You so much. And of course, let’s not forget the friends we met outside of Annex.
Annex, we’re the best! \m/
And the rest. . . . was not History. But a friendship that will last.

The Wing Wars: Boys Vs Girls

The aftermath of the Wing Wars.
Probably one of the funniest event in holwan. Everyone was really hyped for the said event. Before the wing wars was held, many events like larong pinoy were held in celebration with the buwan ng wika.

When the event was gonna start, we realized that our wing(Upperwing boys), is short on ammo maybe just around 25. There, we decided that Xerxes has to buy more dye so that we can create more ammo but sadly, there was no more time. What we did? We asked for 2 pieces of ammo from the Upperwing Girls since there ammo is concentrated for our standards. We mixed those concentrated ammos with more water, the result? It was like we were just throwing ice water. Hahahaha!

We even tried to intimidate the freshmen by shouting: "Walang kuya-kuya ngayon ah! Walang upperclass-upperclass!"

The rules were set. Teams were organized. Upperwing Boys, Lowerwing Boys and the whole girls wing ended up in a triple threat match. Without any delay, the war started.

It started out just fine. The first to have an exchange of fire were the girl's wing and the lowerwing boys. We used that as a diversion and went closer to the girls. I threw my first ammo but suddenly..

..SOMEBODY STARTLED THE WITCH!

I don't know if I'll laugh or be concerned about this abrupt change of behavior by the girls. I didn't have time to ponder upon it because I am still in the middle of the war. We kept on laughing but the attacks keep coming. We still continued firing like it was raining water plastic bags. It was like this:

Then, when we hit someone it was something like this:

But after every hit, this literally happens:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! All I could do was laugh. After the announcement of winner, the feeling of anger was still present in the atmosphere. I could even still smell the blood stain in the air.I heard a lot of curses even though the war already ended. Some even said that there will be a different dorm for boys and a different dorm for girls. It was funny because I know all of them were being carried by their emotions.

Despite the fact that most of them are still emotional, I heard a statement that interested me.

"Guys! ang activities guys, gin-obra ni siya para mag-bonding kita, indi kay sa mag-inaway pa kita!" -Efren

Anyway, after just a few moments, everyone went to the center of the football field and formed a big circle (as you can see in the first picture of this post) and sang At the Beginning. They had a group hug after the song and continued picture taking. It's a good thing that it ended very well without any regrets and full of enjoyment.

"Are they ready for another round of Wing Wars?"
